Winter is here. It’s prime time for garage doors to get grumpy, and our team of 24/7 Columbus Garage Door Repair Experts are ready to go. One of the most common problems we see this time of year – besides broken garage door springs – are stuck garage doors.
We paired up with our friends and garage door manufacturer Clopay to share some top possibilities for why your garage door is stuck…
If you experience a garage door sticking during a cold winter, ice may have built up and put pressure on your springs. Even if you clear the ice, the spring may be damaged and could need replacing.
Your garage door works because the garage door opener unwinds or winds the torsion springs, pulling or pushing the garage door with rollers along a track. If there is something in one of the tracks obstructing the free movement of the rollers, the garage door can stick open.
If you have a jammed pulley system or a broken spring, your garage door won’t work. This might happen when you’re trying to open or close your garage door. If that’s the case, you might get stuck with it partially open until you can get help!
A less likely option is that your garage door jumped the track! If the door is off-track because of something that damaged the panels, you will have to repair or replace the door.
